#9 Discuss Reagle's chapter 3-4

<Discuss Reagle's chapter 3-4>   I've read Reagle's chapter 3-4. The two chapter talked about good faith collaboration and the puzzle of openness. I found them very interesting, especially chapter 3, the good faith collaboration. The puzzle of openness was quite difficult for me.    Chapter 3 speaks about the unique culture that exists in Wikipedia. On the middle of the collaboration, there stands neutral point of view(NPOV) and good faith(including patience, civility, and humor). This two elements are hard to coexist in Wikipedia, but surprisingly in Wikipedia, it's possible. Even if various people participate in Wikipedia, the magical collaboration is going quite well. Having neutral point of view and good faith means that people understand and appreciate each other. Chapter 4 speaks about the puzzle of openness. Because Wikipedia is an open content community, it also includes the concept of openness. The open of information and the people who edits them....

Discuss Reagle’s chapters 3-4

Discuss Reagle’s chapters 3-4 I read the Reagle's chapters 3-4. I find two opinion. One thing is how to collaborate people on Wikipedia. Other is how to make open community on Wikipedia. How to collaborate people on Wikipedia. In the case of the English Wikipedia, there is a collaborative culture that asks its participants to assume two postures: a stance of neutral point of view on matters of knowledge, and a stance of good faith toward one’s fellow contributors. I think that people know the mood that must keep the rule on Wikipedia. If Wikipedia's mood is light, people write the light writing. Other is how to make open community on Wikipedia. I remember the discussion that Why the Women is smaller that the men on Wikipedia. I've heard from others the reason that women don't use it much because the community isn't friendly to women. I think that we try to create Wikipedia to use all the people no matter that the sex. I think it's a process ...

#7 Why Free Culture Matters?

Why is free culture important? I think free culture has induced people to move aggressively. Free culture makes people actively participate in the production of information. It may be because of this trend of free culture that collective intelligence has become important recently. Without this free culture, we would have relied on information from the media. The distorted media coverage would also have had to be trusted. But now I can actively find information through the Internet. This helps to ensure the diversity of information. In addition, the ability to judge the right or wrong of information can be developed by self-assessed acquisition of information.   No information on the Internet can be completely trusted. So, people find information, modify it, and share it with people. This process is a characteristic of free culture.   But I sometimes worry about the problem of this free culture. Because there is a variety of information in a free culture, copyright issues canno...

Week7,.Why Free Culture matters

The culture of freedom is relative to the "closed culture". Therefore, the "free culture" is an open and inclusive culture and a culture of advancing with the times. It is a culture that challenges the concept of liberalism and opposes "free hegemony". Such a culture can be explained from the two levels of “free” culture and “free man” culture.   Freedom is a state of life for people, a way of life. As a state of life, freedom refers to the leisure life of the subject who does everything in his power, enjoys it, thinks about it, enjoys it, and is free from the control of others and the shackles of foreign objects. As a way of living, freedom means that the subject consciously emancipates the concept, rejects the thoughts and keeps the old, adapts to the requirements of the development of the times, perfects the self in a reasonable way, and changes the world with a scientific attitude. Throughout the ages, mankind has made tools for production, explore...

Why Free Culture Matters?

Why Free Culture Matters? Freedom culture is closely linked to copyright. In a free culture, people are free to use and share information regardless of copyright. The biggest example is the creative commons that we often used in class. According to Wikipedeia, Creative Commons is an organization started by Lawrence Lessig which protocols licensees that permit sharing and remixing under variable conditions, and alsoers of commerce on demand. So, what's the matter with free culture? In a free culture, people are free to share and use information, but this is why problems are likely to arise. When information is shared and used regardless of copyright, it is likely to change while information is being used. Such information may be interpreted differently from the original intention of the author. In 'permission culture', opposite to free culture, there is less risk of such a problem. Because the rights and respect of the copyright holders in this culture are bound to be ...

#7 Why Free Culture matters?

Wikipedia is one of the most popular examples of free culture. Because Wikipedia is nobody's property. It seeks public interest, not private interest, as a community result of collective intelligence. Wikipedia can be written by anyone. And there is no copyright in such artifacts. These characteristics can be seen as free culture.   Then, why free culture matters ? I think this free culture has induced people to make active movements. If a free culture like Wikipedia was not possible, everyone would have taken a passive attitude toward information acquisition.   Without Wikipedia, we would have relied only on the information the teacher told us at school or on the information provided in the encyclopedia. However, now we can actively find information through the Internet. This saves time and can pursue information diversity.   On the main screen of Wikipedia, visitors can find various information such as art, history, science, society, technology and geograp...

#7. Why Free Culture Matters?

Jeong Seo Yoon / 정서윤 The Free-Culture movement minimizes copyright pressures on creations and allows them to access it through the Internet or various forms of media without paying for it. Lessig said that excessive copyrightism hurts the driving force of creation. In the information age, the amount of information we have and the ability to access information have become another power. There was an example of this story. It is the statistical software SPSS and R program. IBM's SPSS is an excellent software for visualizing data with a simple interface, but at a price of between 500 million won for a license. When you need to use it on a public network, you have to pay close to 100 million won. Robert Gentleman and Ross Ihaka of the University of Auckland, New Zealand, complained about the open source statistics program. That's R. R is also an example of collective intelligence because it is open source. R also emphasizes communication, sharing textual programming co...

#7 Why Free Culture matters?

#7 Why Free Culture matters? After I write down what I think about free culture matters, I am going to update "free culture part" in Wikipedia. Free culture is a growing understanding among artists and audiences that people shouldn't have to ask permission to copy, share, and use each other's work; it is also a set of practices that make this philosophy work in the real world. This definition of free culture is according to Question Copyright.org. We even annotate references on essay and any writings. That's because, we need to protect copyright for all of information and permissions. If I am in free culture then I would have power to suppress or alter my works. Also I am free to put out a modified copy of your movie using different subtitle and song that I think is better, etc. Then original creative items might be damage from uncertain contents. Not only this problem, but also, their copyright or power can be transfer to other people. Then they don't w...

W7. Why free culture matters?

To briefly describe what I understand about free culture, a culture that can be modified, distributed and used without obtaining the creator's authority for any one content is called a "free culture." In this regard, I asked my teacher a question when I was in high school while preparing for college entrance. Because I didn't think copyright was important at the time, I said, 'I think it's great to collect and develop images posted on the Internet and redesign them in the second and third stages.' However, the teacher was very angry and said that you wanted to make the AD so you should not be ignorant of copyright. Maybe that's why I'm still quite care to copyright.  While secondary creation is also important, how much change does it take from the original to be granted authority as a secondary creation? If there are no objective standards and free culture spreads, a chaotic Internet culture can only be created.

BLOG 7. Why free culture matters?

A free culture is a relationship between the copyright owner and the public who should not ask people to copy and share each other's creations. It is also a set of practices that make this philosophy work in the real world. This movement opposes excessive copyright laws. Many people who participate in this movement argue that overly restrictive copyright laws interfere with creative activity, Free culture can freely use books, movies, songs, and a variety of other media. There, people can edit or edit. By doing so, new works can be formed. In other words, a new work can be formed based on the existing work. Within the legal framework, we can use some of our other works. But the standard is ambiguous. You can create a new creation under the influence of another person's work, but it can be a problem if the creation is nearly identical to the existing one. A free culture can give us new and diverse content, but it can be plagiarism and fraud, so be careful. We must preven...

#7 Why Free Culture matters?

I wanted to know the concept of "free culture," but when I opened the attached link, it was a page that didn't exist. So I'll tell you that this blog debate is something I personally found. The referenced links are as follows.  ( https://questioncopyright.org/what_is_free_culture ). The above site refers to free culture as follows: ‘ Free culture is a growing understanding among artists and audiences that people shouldn't have to ask permission to copy, share, and use each other's work; it is also a set of practices that make this philosophy work in the real world. The opposition to "free culture" is also described as "permission culture." Permission culture argues that a third party must grant permission to the original in order to translate the book. However, free culture insists that if you want to translate a book, you can just translate it. With these explanations, I am more supportive of permission culture than of free c...

Why free culture matters?

<Why free culture matters?> I don't understand the mean of  “ free culture ” . So I find the  “ free culture movement ”   on Wikipedia . The free-culture movement is a social movement that promotes the freedom to distribute and modify the creative works of others in the form of free content or open content without compensation to, or the consent of, the work's original creators, by using the Internet and other forms of media. The popular thing is  “ Creative Commons ” . At the first, I don't understand the mean of free.  I think  all of the things  have copyright. Free things are all around the internet. I mean  “ Internet site ”  which has copyright in law. It's easy to join, and free download. But the important thing is how to range from the use. Free culture is good to use about education, information, book, and so on. If the original creators don't want to use their creative things someday, how we do the action? I think that the ...

[7] Why Free Culture matters?

<Why Free Culture matters?>   Free Culture specifically speaks about the movement which encourages the free distribution and modification of creation from the others. The biggest example is Creative Commons. This organization supports the ideology described upon and give licenses to people or organization who wants.    Wikipedia also supports Creative Commons. So, in Wikipedia you can use the pictures and information freely inside it. Without the permission of the people who edited it, you can just use it for sure. This system really matters, especially on Wikipedia. As Free Culture insists the free modification and distribution, this means that we have many chances to create another one for new or developed. And this is a simple but important point which is necessary for Wikipedia. Wikipedia needs more information by people, and so they needed to remove some offenses that might occur a inconvenience in making some more edits on Wikipedia. Not only for Wikipe...

#6 How important is it to be civil online on the Internet?

Unlike previous times, the world is now connected through the Internet. So we can communicate with other people through the Internet as much as we want. However, it is not easy to maintain public order on the Internet as it is easy to communicate. The laws that we abide by in the offline world don't really apply much to the Internet. On the Internet, anonymous people spread abusive language or false rumors, or illegally distribute data. However, thorough monitoring of these acts or the application of the law is less. The reason why civic awareness on the Internet is important is to maintain this public order. The right citizenship on the Internet ensures the accuracy and reliability of information. What I would like to discuss with you is whether government intervention is necessary to correctly induce this sense of citizenship on the Internet. For example, the government is introducing a real-name system to prevent anonymous people from doing anything inappropriate on the Inter...

#6. How important is it to be civil online on the Internet?

Jeong Seo yoon, 정서윤 It is very important to be polite online. With the development of the Internet, as the online community grows, we can share our thoughts and feelings about someone's unilateral posting. The demand for the process of encouraging other people's participation and exchanging ideas through it is the basic desire for online community expansion. We can see here the universal basic purpose of the online community. That is communication with others. A community is usually a place where people who have a certain purpose, concept, and interest in it naturally come together. There are also rules and manners that suit each community. But basically, we need to be civil to others on the Internet. To be civil is a way of encouraging people to share their opinions with others. If people usually point to keeping good manners with others as one of the important factors in communicating. This is because we need to recognize each other's right to support when we feel...

W6: How important is it to be civil online on the Internet?

I think the question about how important is it to be civil online on the Internet is a key point that we should always keep in mind as Internet users, question that goes back to me about two years ago in a discussion in the subject of Media Seminar of Communication In my home university, I remember that the professor told us that there should even be a subject on how we can use the internet correctly, because many times we use it without analyzing all the good or bad that could happen, bringing with it many consequences.    Many times when we comment on the internet we do not realize that perhaps some of our comments can hurt people, so we must be careful and think twice before what we are going to comment and how we will comment, be sure that we have enough and correct information to speak with basis, always trying to be civil and objective.     Being civil on the Internet is very important because as in everyday life this opens many doors, if you are rud...

How important is to be civil online on the internet?

How important is to be civil online on the internet? Citizenship is an important virtue that people should have in their daily lives, regardless of whether they are offline or online. However, there is a reason why civic awareness is so emphasized online. The reason for this is that online space is a place that various people pass by that we cannot see in our daily lives and do not express themselves clearly. In online, various people can share and discuss opinions regardless of nationality, age or gender. However, it is not easy to find information about each other unless they reveal each other's age or nationality themselves. Therefore, courtesy and etiquette toward each other become more important. This is because words that are uttered without any thought can hurt the other person and, by extension, can become a criminal act. Therefore, respect for each other is an essential. If you say what you want to say online without civic awareness, public figures as well as ordina...

W6. How important is it to be civil online on the Internet?

How important is it to be Civil Online on the Internet? In the 1960s and '70s, the term "Internet" was first coined. 1989 when the private sector began to use the Internet 1993 when browser mosaic was released and users began to explode. T he history of the Internet is really short. In particular, the spread of personal computers and high-speed Internet has been fast in Korea since the late 1990.  It's only been a little over 20 years since ordinary citizens started using the Internet.  But the Internet has begun to become deeply involved in human life faster than any other civilization.  Now you can't even imagine life without computers, the Internet and mobile devices. There is the term "cultural lag." Because the rate of variation between material culture and non-material culture is different, the difference causes social problems. The Internet is a material culture brought about by the advancement of science and technology...

How important is it to be civil online on the Internet?

How important is it to be civil online on the Internet? Since people make a society,  civilization has been developed. Under various societies, societies require civilized people, who are fit on the society. Thus, civilized people is important in society. Civilized people make a law, rule, and so on. These promise and civil keep society well. Not only off-line world but also, civil online on the Internet is important. That's because, Internet world works as real society. In addition, people are activity in online on the Internet. It means online on the Internet requires civil as much as real world society. For example, Wikipidia, civilized people share a lot of knowledge to others. Under right civil and law, people can get these benefits. If there is no civil on the Internet, it would be break down as soon as possible or it isn't existed. Civil online on the Internet is very important. Civil can keep online and real world well.

W6.How important is it to be civil online on the Internet?

Protecting citizenship on the Internet is very important. It is perhaps more important than we keep basic etiquette in reality, not the Internet.   Because we don't meet face-to-face, we don't know each other's identities online, and we don't know each other at all about nonverbal expressions such as facial expressions.   The standard of general manners varies from person to person. But civil rights are the same rules that are equally granted to everyone. How do I impose the same rules on everyone? It can be said to be a special attribute online, controlled by the administrator of the online space. The same applies to Wiki. As someone introduced it in a previous blog post. But nevertheless, there are people who don't protect their citizenship. So what punishment should we impose on them? Wiki is a world-class history book and dictionary that all citizens can participate in. The point here is not 'global,' but 'citizens can participate.' Only those wh...

Blog 6. How important is it to be civil online on the Internet?

How important is it to be civil online on the Internet? I think citizen online is important. The world in which we live is able to communicate with various people without restriction of time and space by the development of technology. Because they are socialized in different cultures, people have different opinions and thoughts. These differences can lead to misunderstandings and conflicts, but they can create a better society by combining different perspectives. It is also good that anyone, not just those with a certain class and strength, can participate on the Internet. If only a handful of people rule online, our society will not improve. Everyone can communicate equally online and their rights are guaranteed.  As online people are guaranteed their rights, they must be polite and obedient to others. Internet online has the same discipline and promise as the real world. But it seems that there are not enough regulations on the internet yet, I think that...

[6] How important is it to be civil online on the Internet?

<How important is it to be civil online on the Internet?>   The word 'civil' includes the meaning of 'being polite and nice on the Internet.' Why would this became the one essential virtue on Internet? I guess it's because Internet is a small-but also could be globally big- society.    When we speak in the real world, we have such kinds of virtue, and not so surprisingly, most of us just think we should be polite and kind to others when speaking their opinions. It is called 'manner', and 'well socialized' when we bring it to face-to-face communication. I think it's not so different on the Internet, cause we 'communicate in a specific place with someone who has his own opinion.' also on the Internet. So maybe there is a word 'netiquette'. It's principle is same, so why do we act differently? We should behave the same. It Becomes more and more important because the accessibility increased globally, so the nationalit...

#6 How important is it to be civil online on the Internet?

In Wikipedia, the attribute civil is not to be ignored. When I saw Civil in the first article, the word 'etiquette' came to my mind. It occurred to me that respecting each other and courting each other online might be the etiquette that existed for a long time.  Etiquette can be viewed online as an 'online consideration' made by users for each other. Acknowledging each other's differences and being polite without being This concept should of course apply to Wikipedia as well. If not, the spatial nature of sharing each other's knowledge will result in poor confidence in information and not information. If this continues, Wikipedia will end up in ruins. I think citizenship is quite important to prevent this. Discussion Is this an excessive measure if someone who doesn't keep his or her civil rights is to suspend an account, such as deportation, rather than simply censoring his or her writing? Or is it appropriate?

How important is it to be civil online on the Internet?

How important is it to be civil online on the Internet? I think that it is very important to be civil online on the internet. In real world, it is  an  important thing that followed a rule by appointment.  Cause  we should be careful in public place. We should not damage the people that use the place. The place opens everyone. The internet is similar to the public place. Internet is the place that followed a rule by appointment. It is up to us to use the internet. If we use the internet worst, the output is worst. If we use the internet best, the output is best. I think the Wikipedia is good example that use the internet space. When I hear the Wikipedia first, I wonder that how people use this clearly? I use the Wikipedia then I know that people know and make the rules. The rule is how to make better place in the Wikipedia. I think the important thing is group's goal and value. People who use the internet should have their goal. It is a point that makes better space ...

w6.How important is it to be civil online on the Internet?

Internet etiquette is a ritual that Internet users should have on other people on the Internet. In the real world, social activities between people have many ceremonies. In the virtual world of the Internet, there is also an unwritten rule. And etiquette, that is, network etiquette, for Internet users to comply. Neglecting the consequences of network etiquette may cause harassment to others, or even cause online wars or boycotts. Although it will not cause damage like the real world, it will not be a pleasant experience for the parties.    Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia project. Features free content, free editing. Despite the freedom of speech, it is still necessary to abide by network etiquette. This is very basic. Although Wikipedia strongly supports the requirements of verifying neutrality in its official policy, Wikipedia is criticized by many people in the society for the ability of anyone to participate in editing, with the quality of the items and the accuracy of...

W5. Can we trust Wikipedia?

I think Wikipedia is partly reliable. First, the trusted part in Wikipedia's content is things(matters) like plants and animals, materials, and machines. They have consistent and unified properties, something that anyone can easily influence, and over time the intrinsic meaning does not change.  For example, there is a explanation about deer in Wiki. Simply, Wiki defines a large-eyed animal with horns, four-legged, bone, brown fur. But what if there was a new animal with brown fur and lots of spots? It is also the 'species' of the new deer's. The name 'Spotted Deer' will be a new category in Wiki. And such a variety of deer will be everywhere in the world as well as in one country. This description of objects that exist regardless of space and time also remembers names based on their characteristics as we remember them again over time. This is said to have persistence, no change in intrinsic meaning, consistent and unified properties. On the contrary, the unrel...
