W6: How important is it to be civil online on the Internet?
I think the
question about how important is it to be civil online on the Internet is a key
point that we should always keep in mind as Internet users, question that goes
back to me about two years ago in a discussion in the subject of Media Seminar
of Communication In my home university, I remember that the professor told us
that there should even be a subject on how we can use the internet correctly,
because many times we use it without analyzing all the good or bad that could
happen, bringing with it many consequences.
Many times
when we comment on the internet we do not realize that perhaps some of our
comments can hurt people, so we must be careful and think twice before what we
are going to comment and how we will comment, be sure that we have enough and
correct information to speak with basis, always trying to be civil and
objective.
Being civil on the Internet is very important because as in everyday life this
opens many doors, if you are rude the doors can also be closed. Because if you
have doubts about something and ask questions politely you will have more
chances that people have more initiative to help you. Conversely, if someone
speaks to us rudely, clearly, we will get upset and even ignore it.
We have to
understand that each mind is a world and that we will not always agree with
other people, each one has a different worldview and the only thing we can do
to improve our knowledge is to listen to what the other part wants to say and
argue politely in order to reach a successful consensus, because if we respond
quickly and rudely it is very likely that we will never reach any consensus and
therefore we will not be able to understand the other person's point of view.
I am sure
that if we all act in a civil way on the internet, we can improve it and make it
a better place. Trying to understand the point of view of the other person and
exposing ours in an educated way we can expand our knowledge and that of other
people.
