Why do you think people use Wikipedia? Why do others write for it?

I think one of the main reasons why people use Wikipedia is because of the high number of references that it contains in its articles, not only based on a single source, but it has several links, books or magazines in which they are based on the articles.

Being able to read an article in which many people collaborate and knowing that they update it from time to time gives you some security when using or learning the information from there, because you know that there is a team behind that seeks a common good and that they themselves would not allow that the information is false or incorrect, besides that we can corroborate the references and if we need more information from some part we can easily access it by having all the links registered, which means that we as Wikipedia users can use the information with more easily without having to do dozens of searches.

We should also not forget that it is free and nobody in their right mind rejects free information, especially if it is for a homework or project. And at least in the searchers of Google and Yahoo! Wikipedia will always appear as the first option, which is not so easy to ignore and the fact that it is in several languages makes it much easier to use.

I am sure that the people who write in Wikipedia do it for the common good, seeking to be able to give information within everyone's reach, in order to help the population of the world to know more about other topics, from the simplest to the most complex.

I think that many do it purely for the love of art, because they know that it is unpaid work and still they do it with the information they have at their disposal like books, magazines, newspapers or maybe researching the Internet, maybe in some subjects having the information first hand, witnessing it themselves or knowing the people were present in certain events and want to share the facts as they happened or that maybe many people do not know, also in the same way correcting information that they know is not true or adding missing aspects of the topic.
