#4. Discuss Reagal's Chapters 1-2

Jeong Seo Yoon, 정서윤

To predict the future, it is important to accumulate past knowledge. Every attempt to predict the future is excellent in itself. Whether it has failed, wrong, or not realized, it remains in the form of information to someone and becomes the foundation of another discovery and development. It is the same as verifying the null hypothesis in the statistics. Wikipedia's "Anyone" gets inspiration and records information through discussion.

The stories discussed in the 1 and 2 chapters are an attempt to realize the vision of reaching global consensus in the good faith of the people. As with chapter 7 warnings, not all references are inevitably progressive. However, the existence and maintenance of Wikipedia is itself a result of human 'good'.

I found the concept of "Open Conspiracy" in this article interesting. In terms of contributing to the innovation of public education, Wikipedia's existence was felt to be like the realization of a better democracy. The advantage of Wikipedia is that we can continue to debate with people to create better Article, Reference. As you exchange conversations, you can feel an unknown "good." Do you feel a sense of community? The reason why we can exchange stories is that we all share the same purpose. That is the realization of the universal reference work. I have the responsibility to specify the source and the source, even if someone doesn't keep an eye on me.

Though the knowledge of technology has been pouring over countless times a day, the time has come to acquire knowledge in all areas. So Wikipedia is one good way to integrate and organize information. There are a variety of references to get an in general look at what you're looking for and to get deeper information if you want.
Earlier, Newton said, "If I had looked farther away, it was because I was on the shoulders of giants."[1] Using Wikipedia and sharing knowledge would also be an attempt to climb onto the giant's shoulders and see something. People develop this way every time. It is not just about knowing various kinds of information, but about linking them together and creating new predictions and creations.

Question
Suddenly, I remember Leonardo da Vinci, who wrote his information in an unrecognizable password. If the opposite concept of shared knowledge exists, what is it and what other pros/cons do it have?

[1] The quote began in 1130 in Bernard Sartre's "We can see more and farther than the ancients because we are like dwarfs on the shoulders of giants" and was used by various scholars, including George Herbert and Salisbury, and became famous for it.

  1. Seo Yoon, it is a good writing! The point that you came up 'open conspiracy' was also the thing I was quite interested. And maybe this made the recent progress of Wikipedia I think. The character of liberty and community-also applied in some social network services- made the success of Wikipedia. Besides, I really like the quote you wrote-the one from Newton- "If I had looked farther away, it was because I was on the shoulders of giants." Truly, Wikipedia is a stack of information made by people from past, people who are living today, and will.

And for the question. As you found, there are some shared knowledge by a small group. I think there would be Morse code for additional examples. The pros would be the secret share of specific info in the group and the cons would be the structure exclude normal public to the access of info. If there are some gaining points, following losing points would come.
