[1] Wikipedia

<What do you know about Wikipedia and what do I want to learn about it?>

Wikipedia, I think it is a big encyclopedia filled with various information edited by people in the world. Obviously it contains lots of information that are large and small, famous or not. One thing I knew since the first week was that Wikipedia has strict laws-especially in copyrights. Naturally because the system in Wikipedia uses many information from various materials. The point that is easy to overlook.

So I thought it would be great to learn about more copyright rules in Wikipedia by editing some articles, and how to edit Wikipedia effectively. I tried to edit some part of the articles by myself but there were so many conditions to success editing. For the first time I had to make a new article to add one as a celebrity, and for the second try I had to make a citation. And trying to add a photo, the photo had to be created by myself to upload in Wikipedia. Learning about the required skills in Wikipedia and copyright laws will be my first aim in this class.
Second, I want to learn about the massive system of Wikipedia. In other words, I want to understand about the system in Wikipedia which makes reverts for the edits, and the message system, and the overall structure of it. Information is stacked like a sea, then how can this system hold these and keep on checking the forms? If there are some supervisors, would it be accurate to let them check? It made me curious.

Closing, I would like to share the question I mentioned above. What do you think about Wikipedia's system? How will the system circulate in stable. If there are supervisors checking the whole system or if there are a checking programs made by Wikipedia, would it be accurate and fair to any edited information?

thanks for reading.

  1. It is interesting. At the first time, I have a similar question of it. I think many people doing Wikipedia are supervisors. So, when we meet a controversial article, we can see that the article is edited and developed quickly. And I do not know if there is a program to check, but if it does exist, it should be done with minimal standards. In a way to censure hate speech. Thank you for sharing your story Minhyun!
